Traveling northwest, we are now discovering classic art galleries in the large Arctic state of Alaska for our continous segment 'Art Galleries Around the World'.
The Alaska House was designed and built in 1939 in beautiful wintry white Fairbanks. "There are oak floors, high ceilings and leaded windows in the three white-washed gallery rooms, hand hewn timbers overhead, and a river stone fireplace that brightens the gallery through the winter months."
In 2000, the house was restored and transformed into an art gallery by the Fejes family. "The gallery specializes in museum-quality Alaskan arts, exhibiting Alaska Native and resident artists, paintings, artifacts, carvings and sculpture, masks, fabric art and hand-crafted jewelry." The gallery is dedicated to preserving and promoting the Art of Alaska. The museum portays a multitude of different art varieties with a lot of rich culture and fascinating history. They also hold a variety of exciting events throughout the year, including Jazz and Art (musicians entertain) and Meet the Artist (artists come and share techniques and demonstrations).
Their website is easy to navigate and explore. You can browse their calendar of upcoming events, see artwork from their featured artists, and learn the very interesting history of the museum and its founders. A gallery with a great story and lots of amazing art in store, The Alaska House Art Gallery is truly a classic find.

We will feature another Alaska Art Gallery on Thursday!
